Why I Ride: For those of you who didn't have the extraordinary privilege to know him, this is John. Dad to me, & my 3 brothers. Popper to his 10 grandchildren.
He was a brilliant scientist. A great father, & an even better grandfather. A master woodworker. A sailor. A tennis player. A runner. A master chef & foodie decades before that term had been invented. He wrote multiple books which have been published in multiple languages. A Cheesehead. A vet. A drummer.
In an unspeakable act of cruelty, this bright light had his brilliance snuffed out by Alzheimers. It seems incredibly cruel to me that this disease seems to target the MOST brilliant.
I truly believe this disease can be beat. I am sure Dad - the Dad I knew & loved, the Dad of science & logic, before Alzheimer's had dulled, then silenced, his incredible intellect - would agree.
That's why I'm joining family members in doing the Ride to End Alzheimers in June. I'm committing to ride at least 50 miles. We may try for the 70.
Thank you for your consideration. Please give as you are able & you are moved.
