Hello everyone, thanks for coming to my fundraising page for the Ride to End ALZ (formerly A Ride to Remember). The 2022 event will be my seventh consecutive year of participating for the benefit of the Alzheimer's Association and the sixth consecutive year riding with my local bike shop team Cycle Haus, which has been a great supporter of the event.
As everyone obviously knows, 2021 was a challenging year for everyone in many ways. COVID forced this event to go virtual in 2020 and continued with a virtual and live event in 2021. Despite the economic challenges of the global pandemic, RTR 2021 still managed to raise substantial funds for the Alzheimer's Association. I debated skipping 2022 as the 2021 ride did not end well for me in Charleston, but ultimately elected to participate because this is such a worthy cause to research a disease that has afflicted several members of my extended family. It is heartbreaking to write so many names on my bib each year.
As you likely know, I started riding in this event for my father, Dee Smith. Dad lost his battle with Alzheimer's eight years ago, but more and more people continue to develop this horrible disease every year. I have committed to raise awareness and funds to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's disease and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050.
Please support my efforts by making a donation in memory of my father, Dee Smith, and the many others who are suffering from this disease as well as their families. All funds raised benefit the Alzheimer's Association and its work to enhance care and support programs and advance research toward methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure for Alzheimer's disease. I've kicked off the donations myself with $150, but any amount that you can donate would be most appreciated and your donation is tax deductible.
Thank you for your support and for joining the fight against Alzheimer’s!
Stacy
