My Story

As so many of you know, my personal story began in 2011 when my husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer's at  age 57. Robert passed away in 2022 at the age of 68 and the official cause of death was listed as Alzheimer's.  It was Robert's dream to be part of the effort to finally celebrate the FIRST SURVIVOR from this insidious disease.  Over the years, so many of our friends have helped to support his dream through your financial donations as well as physical involvement with the multiple Alzheimer's Walks, most especially The Emerald Isle Sea Turtle Crawl... my absolute favorite of the many walks that I have supported.

When I was notified that the Sea Turtle Crawl would not be taking place this year, I decided to combine my personal fundraising efforts with the other fundraising group that I support which is NC  Fidelis Xi of Alpha Delta Kappa, an honorary educational sorority. Alpha Delta Kappa recognizes The Alzheimer's Association and The Longest Day as one of their International Projects so our contributions will have global impact. We are listed on the NC Alpha Delta Kappa Pearls team and have a beautiful pot of violets drawn by one of our chapter members as our cover page.  There should be a link that goes directly to our page.  I am always humbled by the outpouring of love and support from family and friends and hope that you will continue to support our efforts to raise awareness and fund research in the fight against Alzheimer's.  Thanks so much!!!

The Longest Day is the day of the year with the most light  the summer solstice. And it's the day I have committed to fight Alzheimer's disease! I’m participating in The Longest Day, a fundraising event to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.

Today, an estimated 50 million people worldwide are living with Alzheimer's or other dementias, including more than 5 million Americans. In the United States alone, 16 million friends and family members are providing their care. We must take action now, or these numbers will continue to rise.

Stand up to the darkness of Alzheimer’s and make a donation today to help the Alzheimer's Association support all those facing the disease. Thank you!
