This summer, I'm honoring my friends Rick and Shirley by participating in 48 Peaks for the Longest Day, a

fundraising event to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.

This last year has been life changing for Rick and Shirley as a result of Alzheimer's. Sadly Rick has watched his best friend slip away and had to retire early from his career in order to be home to care for her because the cost of care is so expensive.

In the last two years, we have made monumental progress in the world of treatment against

Alzheimer's, including the first disease-modifying treatments. But, the fight is far from over. Today, over 50 million people across the world are living with Alzheimer's, including more than 6 million Americans. In the U.S. alone, more than 11 million caregivers generously dedicate themselves to those with Alzheimer's and dementia, providing over $287 billion worth of unpaid care. We must take action- now, as these numbers continue to rise.
