I’ve joined the fight to end Alzheimer’s! I’m participating in The Longest Day to raise funds and awareness for the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association.

The Longest Day is the day with the most light — the summer solstice. On June 20, thousands of participants from across the world come together to fight the darkness of Alzheimer’s through a fundraising activity of their choice. Will you join the fight with a donation today?

My mom had started this and I have found over the years participating no matter how much is raised the word is out there and we are raising awareness for an amazing cause.

My story is about my Grandmother from my mom's side. Lots of her grandchildren called her Monie although a lot spelled it Money. It is pronounced Mow-knee. I was 5-7 years old when Monie was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. At that time as a child, I never knew what that meant or why my mom was so stressed/worried/sad a lot of times.

My brother and I were told by my mom in the most simple way is that her memory wasn't as good as it use to be and been bad recently. We were told to never correct her and just keep saying I love you in ASL which we always did a lot when we visited her in the nursing home.

Growing up I was always fond of Monie more then anyone in the world maybe I was bias and partial to her but anytime we visited or she came over before she was diagnosed I enjoyed every minute of it.

We lost her to the fight in 2001. One of the hardest days I will forever remember although I don't recall what day I do remember the year and around the month. She will forever be my inspiration to keep helping with the fight and helping spread the awareness.

This year I will be live streaming off of twitch to raise awareness in honor of Monie. I am hoping to reach my goal but if I can at least raise awareness that is fine with me as well. I hope to see you there
