June 20th... The Longest Day of the year, the Summer Solstice, the day with the most light, a day we fight Alzheimer's Disease and other dementias. June 20th, comes only once a year. Those living with Alzheimer's Disease and other dementias live with it 24/7, 365 days a year... progressing for many years. This is what both my mom and dad lived with...24/7/365. This is what my parents and family fought on a daily basis...DEMENTIA!

Mom lived with progressing dementia for years. Dad was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease late in his life. In January 2022, Parkinson's disease dementia raised its very ugly head on my father and he began living with dementia.

Mom and dad are now celebrating life together in heaven.

There are so many types of dementia and sadly both my parents were afflicted. And, believe me...that's tough stuff. My sister and brothers were so supportive, helpful and loving. The best family around, to be honest. The role of Caregiver is hard...hardest job ever, especially when it is a family member providing the care. It is an unpaid, full time job...24/7/365...always "on", always "alert" for that call in the middle of the night or at the end of a long day. Alzheimer's dementia, Parkinson's dementia, Vascular dementia, Mixed dementia, Lewy Body dementia, Frontotemporal dementia...DEMENTIA is a THIEF! It robs us of time, memories, laughter, family...your parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, friends. A cure needs to be found. Support needs to be available AND affordable.
