On the longest day, I'm going to run 16 miles while pushing Edward to honor those affected by Alzheimer's disease. I run with Grandma Rita on my mind. When my grandparents had passed she comforted me. She said I still had grandparents because she was my grandmother. My husband and I were hardly engaged at that point and she accepted me as hers. I have always been welcome to call her grandma. I'm participating in The Longest Day, a fundraising event to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.

Today, over 35 million people across the world are living with Alzheimer's, including more than 5 million Americans. In the U.S. alone, more than 15 million caregivers generously dedicate themselves to those with Alzheimer's and dementia. We must take action now, or these numbers will continue to rise.
