On June 22 June I will be participating in the Washburn Challenge, a 20-mile bike ride, 7-mile kayak and BBQ celebration, taking place in Falmouth, Cape Cod, benefitting the Alzheimer’s Association. 

All funds raised help provide care and support programs for local families facing this disease, and advance research efforts for a cure.

Today, an estimated 50 million people worldwide are living with Alzheimer's or other dementias, including more than 6 million Americans. In the United States alone, over 11 Million friends and family members are providing their care with an estimated value of $340 Billion. In 2023 Alzheimer’s and other dementias cost the US more than $345Billion. 

My college buddy Stu McLeod started this fundraiser 8 years ago in honor of his sister Sara who had early onset Alzheimer's and died in 2018.  Our team was always "the Other Stew" until this year we changed it to honor "The Other Sarah," my dear friend Sammy Paul's mother Sarah G Paul, who died with Alzheimer's in 2022.

"Mrs Paul" as we called her well into our adult years, was one of those second Moms a small community like Granby, CT afforded us kids as we palled around with many friends who still remain close today.  Sammy, his father Sam, and brothers Michael and David are in our hearts as we work to raise the money it takes fight this awful disease in her honor.

Please give what you can.  The Washburn Challenge is the #5 largest Longest Day fundraser in the country.  Our goal is $200,000 this year.
