My Story
In 2017, my business partner Stuart McLeod founded the Washburn Challenge to honor his sister Sarah who passed away too soon from early onset Alzheimer's disease. This terrible disease brings anguish and suffering not just to those with the disease, but to entire families.
Stuart turned his grief into something positive. Under his leadership, the Washburn Challenge has become one of the most successful Longest Day fundraisers in the country. To date, it has raised $700,000 for the Alzheimer's Association!
This June 22, I will once again participate in this event, a 20-mile bike ride and 7-mile kayak around Washburn Island to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Association. All funds raised help provide care and support programs for local families facing this disease, and advance research efforts for a cure.
Today, an estimated 50 million people worldwide are living with Alzheimer's or other dementias, including more than 6.5 million Americans. In the United States alone, over 11 million friends and family members are providing their care with an estimated value of $272 Billion. In 2022 Alzheimer’s and other dementias will cost the US more than $321 Billion.
We are making a difference! Today there is more hope than ever as new drugs are showing great promise! More treatments are in the pipeline that ever before.
Please make a donation today to help the Alzheimer's Association support all those facing the disease. Thank you!
