My Story
My dad is known by most as a joke teller, lake lover and could smoke the best BBQ. He loved to cook up a brisket for friends and family and would bring life to a party. His philosophy was to take advantage of life's opportunity whenever and wherever they presented themselves. "Seas the Moment" became the quote you would often hear him say and was the name of his boat.
His motto in life was: “Wherever there is a human being or an animal, there is an opportunity for kindness.” He loved to roam the isles of stores handing out his infamous “retirement card” and sharing a story and telling his joke of the day with all those he met. He never met a stranger. Ethan and Wyatt, his grandsons, were his world. He loved all pets, especially his sweet Molly, a rat terrier who stole his heart from day one. Another one of his loves was collecting and gifting knives.
My dad was diagnosed with dementia and was fortunate to start treatment by taking Aricept. His laughter continued, the jokes continued, the stories and memories he shared continued. This gift wasn't realized until after he stopped taking Aricept when his circulatory system began to get worse. Slowly the jokes were harder to remember, the stories became fuzzy and the short term memory was impacted. I am convinced that the Alzheimer's treatment gave us a gift that we never expected. I will continue my dad's fight and hope you considering helping. With your donation families can receive support on their Alzheimer’s journey, promising research can advance toward a future without Alzheimer’s and lives can — and will — be changed.
Your donation means so much, to my family and to all those affected by the disease. Thank you for considering donating in honor of my dad.
