Fundraising Progress

My Story
A group I am a member of, The Greenfield Dragons, is a group of women who play Maj Jongg each week. My mom has Dementia. Another group member's mom and close friend are both living with Alzheimers. Because of this, the Greenfield Dragons decided that participating in the Alzheimer's Association fundraiser called The Longest Day would be a good way to help support those dealing with this disease. We will be accepting donations from now through June 21st (Summer Solstice).
The funds raised will be used towards awareness, care, support, and research.
Today, an estimated 50 million people worldwide are living with Alzheimer's or other dementias, including more than 6 million Americans. In the United States alone, more than 11 million friends and family members are providing their care.
For those of you who know me, know I spent more than 30 years working with individuals with special needs. The National Institute on Aging estimates that 50% or more people with Down syndrome will develop demential due to Alzheimer's disease as they age (www.nia.nih.gov). So this issue has affected me both personally and professionally.
Thank you for supporting me and the Greenfield Dragons in reaching our goal
Michelle
