My Story
Goodbye Dad
Those are the hardest two words I have ever written. You left us yesterday Dad on a beautiful May Spring morning with the sun newly risen and the birds singing. It was Mother’s Day you decided to leave at 7:05 am. I will never forget your passing.
You fought this disease as best as you could Dad, for four years we watched Alzheimer’s Disease slowly steal you away from us. For the last two years every day we watched Mom fight with you to try to keep you with us as long as possible.
We kept you with us as long as we could Dad until your body began to give up. I am so grateful as hard as it was to watch you decline for the glimmers of you that would suddenly appear. There you were!!!! If only for a few minutes.
Thank you Dad for my life.
Thank you Dad for clearly teaching me right and wrong and giving me the grit I needed to get thru life.
Thank you Dad for my adventurous spirit and my you should try everything once attitude.
Thank you Dad for being a steady presence in our lives and for taking care of us and Mom for 57 years
Thank you Dad for being such a good grandfather to our girls. They love you more than you will ever understand.
Thank you Dad for 53 years of great Christmas’s
Thank you Dad for my love of music.
Thank you Dad for my love of the outdoors and boating. Countless camping trips and time on the lake will do that.
Whenever I hear a train I will think of you. Whenever I hear the Eagles, America, Steve Miller Band, Rod Stewart the Doobie Brothers. I will think of you. Whenever I need to fix something in my house I will think of you. Whenever my car is dirty I will think of you. Whenever I am craving a road trip I will think of you. Whenever I walk the dog I will think of you. Whenever I hear the birds and watch the sunrise I will think of you.
I will live a good life and be as happy as I can Dad because you would want me to. But I will miss you everyday for the rest of my life.
Be at Peace Dad - We love you.

The Longest Day is the day of the year with the most light — the summer solstice. And it's the day I have committed to fight Alzheimer's disease! I’m participating in The Longest Day, a fundraising event to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
Today, an estimated 50 million people worldwide are living with Alzheimer's or other dementias, including more than 6 million Americans. In the United States alone, more than 11 million friends and family members are providing their care. We must take action now, or these numbers will continue to rise.
Stand up to the darkness of Alzheimer’s and make a donation today to help the Alzheimer's Association support all those facing the disease. Thank you!

The Power of a Donation
