is fundraising to honor:
Fred Castro & Valerie Sanchez
supporting the fight to end Alzheimer's
In Memory of Fred Castro
Sadly, my older brother Fred Castro passed away last March 2020 due to complications from the COVID 19 virus. Prior to his death, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s when he was 59 years old. He was 74 when he was taken from us after suffering from this debilitating disease. I was his primary caregiver and attending family member for the last 15 years. It has been a tough and demanding task, but one I took on without hesitation because Fred was not only my family, he was my mentor, one that taught me many life lessons such as the importance of a good education, sportsmanship, and most importantly integrity. I use this value system daily.
Therefore, on behalf of my brother Fred, my Mother in- law Valerie and other close family and friends that currently suffering from this terrible disease, my Team and I have created a charity event for the Alzheimer’s Association called:
“A RACE TO REMEMBER”
A disease as challenging as Alzheimer’s deserves to be addressed by an event that is as equally challenging. Therefore, the race I chose as a vehicle for our charity is the world-famous IRONMAN. This grueling race will be in Sacramento, CA in Oct 24th 2021 and runs a total of 140.6 miles. This distance is broken down into three stages, each more difficult than the last: 1) a 2.4-mile swim, 2) a 112-mile bike ride, and 3) a 26.2-mile Marathon run. All of which must be completed within a 17-hour time limit.
This is a daunting task, even for the most seasoned athlete. It will be even more challenging for me as I strive to become the first athlete to complete this race within regulation after undergoing complicated bi-lateral knee replacement surgery and sporting two Zimmer Biomet artificial titanium knees.
My brother always said, “To accomplish something extraordinary, one must have a goal so high, a journey so demanding, and a cause so noble, that the accomplishment of this task becomes greater than the individual performing it ”. What better event to support everyone affected with this terrible disease then to cross the finish line together with Alzheimer’s Association to help find the cure for Alzheimer's.
It is my hope that anyone you know individuals, or families, struggling with this disease will support me by giving to this cause.
With Much Appreciation,
