My Story
The Longest Day is the day of the year with the most light — the summer solstice. And it's the day I have committed to fight Alzheimer's disease! I’m participating in The Longest Day, a fundraising event to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
Today, an estimated 50 million people worldwide are living with Alzheimer's or other dementias, including more than 5 million Americans. In the United States alone, 16 million friends and family members are providing their care. We must take action now, or these numbers will continue to rise.
I watched my grandmother, the woman who raised her 9 children and selflessly helped her 15 grandchildren, slowly lose her mind to Alzheimer's. This disease takes people before their time. Our family has always loved to play games together, enjoying time together, laughing and making memories. The goal of this night is to enjoy time with your families, and play time together.
In June, we will have some game nights, have them with your families make memories, celebrate and fight this disease that takes our families members minds before their bodies. With COVID it is hard to have gatherings but I try to host some smaller gatherings to celebrate the joys of families, memories and health. And hopefully a virtual night too, stay tuned for details!
Stand up to the darkness of Alzheimer’s and make a donation today to help the Alzheimer's Association support all those facing the disease. Thank you!
