Chris and Joe DiPietro
Alzheimer’s has affected our family personally. My father-in-law, Joe DiPietro, lost his battle at the age of 78 in March 2013. Now the battle continues as my husband, Chris DiPietro, at the age of 54 in March of 2019 was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. It forever changed our family’s life. In an instant what we planned for our future was gone. Our life as we knew it was completely redirected to another path. The path took us down a road that we were familiar with as far as the disease but unaware how drastically different it is when you are afflicted with Alzheimer’s at a younger age. The worries are endless. Not only financial concerns with future care, but all the plans, hopes and dreams we made as a couple have completely changed as well as our roles. It can feel very lonely at times, like you are in a fishbowl watching others live your dreams. So here we are now 2 years later and realizing that when our loved ones are diagnosed with this disease at middle age that their lives are still valuable and full of purpose but just in a different way. We strongly feel focusing on Younger-on-Set and the effects it has on the individual, as well as the family dynamics, would give purpose to all of us. Connecting with families that we can talk to, get support from, and share like interests to keep our loved one active and engaged. Alzheimer's was placed in our lives again for a reason. Maybe it is time now to embrace it and give of ourselves to help other families who are suffering from this disease as it will help all of us.
Please consider joining our team, Rush For Cure, which was created out of Chris’s love of the band Rush and expediency to find a cure. As part of our mission, we want to grow our community and connect with people who are going through the same things. Life is not meant to be lived alone which is why we ask for all your support, love, and anything you can do to help, whatever that may be. It could be joining our team, donating to Alzheimer's association through our group, reaching out to us to chat or catch up, or it can even be as simple as keeping us in your prayers.
Thank you for your love, support and prayers,
Linda & Chris
P.S. We want to thank our 3 incredible, loving and caring boys, Christopher, Nick & Angelo, who are on this journey with us. Along with our faith, they have been our rock. We love you.
