the longest day tennis relay
Our Team Story
Charlotte and surrounding tennis players! Your friends in tennis from PPRSC are excited to announce our first annual tennis charity event/social open to all Charlotte men and women! Like many of you, we have been personally affected by ALZ and we want to bring our community together to support all of those living with or caring for loved ones with Alzheimer’s. By channeling our love of tennis into a fun, doubles tennis relay event, we hope to raise awareness and funds to eradicate this disease. Like all of you, we believe memories should last a lifetime.
When: Saturday April 25th, 2020 11-6pm. Rain date May 2. All courts. 3100 Houston Branch Road
Format: Doubles format. The team with the most games won by percentage of games played is the winner! This is a team relay so you can play for your team as little as an hour or as long as you want. Each team needs two on the court at all times and you will play against the other teams. Courts will rotate every hour for new opponent play! When you aren't playing there will be food and drinks and raffles so stay after or before you play and cheer on your team to victory! We will break 3pm-4pm for an exhibition so in total there is 6 hours of doubles play. Our “buy Alfie” kicker (he is our Director of Tennis) will allow you to buy him for 15 minutes at a time to jump on the court with you if your team needs to up your wins!
How do I sign up? Email Kate@katesoffice.com. Let us know if you want to captain a team or be a participant.
Cost: $25 captains, $35 each participant. For just $35 you will receive a team T-shirt *each team will have their own color* food and drink, balls for play and prizes for the winning team.
Captains: Being a captain will be easy as your relay committee is here to help you and you are NOT required to be at the event all day. You can recruit as few as 6 players - if each team member can play 2 hours - or get more players and each play one hour, or mix it up, however you want to build your team, it’s up to you! Men and women welcome. And as participants sign up we can help fill your team if needed. Captains will work with each team for your 2020 honoree and their names will be posted at the event. We are honoring our loved ones and those caring for loved ones so nominate someone to honor for your team in either of those categories.
Exhibition: 3pm-4pm with our Charlotte Pro-league friends and Director Alfie. The exhibition is open to all! This is a “free will” donate event. If you know someone who does not play tennis but would like to attend, invite them to the exhibition! They do not have to register, they can just show up and give any amount they want to watch. We will take a group photo at start of exhibition so hang out if you can!
Support: A representative from our local ALZ chapter will be on site to provide educational and support materials and answer your questions.
Your committee member contact info is as follows. We are here to help and can’t wait to relay with you! Respond by 2-28-2020 with your team or your individual intent to play to join what is sure to be a really fun and important day!
