is fundraising to honor:
all those facing Alzheimer's
As many people know, I have been an active supporter of the Alzheimer’s Association for over ten years in honor of my mother, Jean, who passed away from the disease. Historically, I have raised money by participating in the Ride to End Alzheimer’s. This year, I am participating in one of the Association’s signature events, The Longest Day. However, my Longest Day will more likely be my Longest Summer as I’m going to ride across the United States from Astoria, OR. to Yorktown, VA, starting July 1! The ride will be over 4,000 miles and will take me over the Oregon Cascades, through Yellowstone National Park, over the Colorado Rockies, through the plains of Kansas, through the Ozark Mountains, and over the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia as well as all points in between.
You can follow my journey across the country by reading my journal at http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/LongestSummer
A different way to see the USA! And all for a good cause!!!
Today, an estimated 50 million people worldwide are living with Alzheimer's or other dementias, including more than 5 million Americans. In the United States alone, 16 million friends and family members are providing their care. We must take action now, or these numbers will continue to rise.
The Alzheimer’s Association is the leading nonprofit organization leading the fight to end Alzheimer’s. Their vision is a World without Alzheimer’s. They provide care and support to individuals and their families dealing with the disease at no cost. In addition, they are the largest nongovernmental funding source for Alzheimer’s research, including the U.S. POINTER study which will look at how lifestyle and diets affects individuals’ risk of getting Alzheimer’s.
I hope you will support my ride across the country by making a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association. In addition, a generous donor will be matching the first $15,000 of donations. Please note that my ride is 100% self-funded and all donations made will go to the Alzheimer’s Association.
PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU ARE MAKING A DONATION VIA A DONOR-ADVISED FUND, PLEASE EMAIL CHARLENE BEMIS FROM THE ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION AT firstname.lastname@example.org TO ENSURE YOUR DONATION IS CREDITED TO THIS EVENT.
