is fundraising to honor:
Grampy and Marastante
The Longest Day is the day of the year with the most light — the summer solstice. And it's the day I have committed to fight Alzheimer's disease! I’m participating in The Longest Day, a fundraising event to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association by running the 2019 United Airlines Half.
I am running in honor of my grandfather, who lost his battle with Alzheimer's when I was in elementary school. He was my best friend and I looked up to him in my young age. His day-care was next to to my day-care and they used to have the older folks visit the toddlers and do bonding activities. I was always so excited when I knew he would be visiting with us that day. I hope the money raised will help find ways to prolong the life of everyones loved ones who are living with dementia. Although there is nothing more that can be done for my grandfather, I hope this money also goes to supporting those already too far along in their fight with dementia like my aunt Mara.
My Aunt Mara (Marastante), developed signs of dementia about 5 years ago and was recently moved into a nursing home due to her declining health. She was a world traveler and one of the smartest women I know. Today, she enjoys using "potty mouth" and pinching people. It is hard watching this strong willed women change before my eyes, but as long as the Alzheimers Association is out there helping to advance the care and research of all dementias I know she is in good hands.
Lastly, and I am sorry this is so long, I am running for my Mom. The women who has taken care of me for the last 27 years, as well as being a care taker to my grandfather, and aunt (her older sister). There aren't enough words to express how proud I am of my mother of being a full time care taker while also working so I hope running this half-marathon and helping to raise funds to advance Alzheimers research is a good start.
Help me stand up to the darkness of Alzheimer’s and make a donation today to help the Alzheimer's Association support all those facing the disease. Thank you!
