is fundraising to honor:
her father Fred Eckert
I'm participating in The Longest Day to show my love for all those affected by Alzheimer’s disease. On June 21, I am joining others around the world and doing what I love to honor people living with Alzheimer's, their caregivers, and those lost to the disease, while raising funds and awareness to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association.
Today, an estimated 47 million people across the world are living with dementia. This number is set to skyrocket to 75 million by 2030. In the United States alone, more than 15 million caregivers generously dedicate themselves to those with Alzheimer's and dementia. These numbers will only continue to rise unless we take action.
Together, we can show those facing Alzheimer's disease they are not alone. Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research toward the first survivor of Alzheimer’s and provide care and support to those facing the disease today.
My personal inspiration for participating in this event is in remembrance of my father who passed away from this heartbreaking disease on October 6, 2017 at the age of 88. During his illness, the stress on my family was undeniable, not only in terms of decisions around his comfort and care but also the pain of seeing a love one (literally) wither away. Although I know he is in a better place, a sadness still lingers and I miss him. I lost my grandmother (his mother) from the same horrible disease.
The Alzheimer's foundation provided incredible support to me the last couple years of Dad's life and I passed along useful information to my family. The resources provided helped us all better understand the disease and how to navigate changes that are expected as ALZ progresses.
This is an annual event that I started three years ago with the support of my community-oriented company (Vizient). Employees who donate will have the opportunity to have fun in the sun (hiking, biking, etc.) on June 21st at beautiful Philip Miller Park in Castle Rock, CO.
