Susan Blanton Been's journey with Alzheimer's Disease began in 1993 when her most beloved Grandmother was diagnosed with the disease. She recalls that time as such a frightening time, watching her loved one disappear right in front of her eyes. Been's Grandmother passed away from the disease on December 23, 2000. That was her first exposure to Alzheimer's, but it wouldn't be her last. Susan's Mother, Carolyn, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease in 2017. After watching her Grandmother with the disease, Been knew what was ahead for her regarding her Mother. However, nothing can prepare you for the agony of this terrible, life-robbing disease. Carolyn Blanton passed away on December 31, 2021, at 73. No words describe losing your best friend to such a horrible disease. As an active philanthropist in the Atlanta community, Susan decided that life was too short, and from now on, she would dedicate her time to raising funds to find a cure for Alzheimer's disease.
Susan Been founded Wilson Parker Homes in 2009. Wilson Parker Homes, a private home building company, was headquartered in Atlanta, GA, with divisions in Phoenix, AZ, Augusta, GA, Raleigh, NC, and Columbia, SC. Wilson Parker Homes was purchased by DR Horton in 2016.
Susan has two exceptional children, who are the most important people in her life. Katherine is currently in Graduate School at Columbia University, and Wils is a junior at The University of Alabama.
Susan Been has served on various boards, including the Atlanta Women's Foundation, Make A Wish GA, Boys and Girls Club of Metro Atlanta, and the UGA, Odum School of Ecology. Susan has chaired a number of events in Atlanta, including the Make A Wish GA Wish Ball, Atlanta Botanical Garden of Eden Ball, Atlanta Women's Foundation Numbers Luncheon with Madeleine Albright, and most recently chaired NBAF, Fine Art + Fashion.
