I am honored, excited, motivated (and a bit nervous) to be dancing at the 2023 Alzheimer’s Association Memory Ball on May 6, 2023. Each of us needs to do our part in combating this disease, and I am pleased to use my passion for dance to bring awareness and funds for the ongoing research and continued assistance and support for patients, families and the heroic caregivers that the Alzheimer’s Association provides. The much-needed funds support research to find treatments to slow the progression of the disease and hopefully ultimately to discover a cure. I am sure most of you know someone or a family who has suffered with this dreaded disease. Over 5 million Americans have Alzheimer’s, and that number continues to grow. My motivation to participate in this amazing fundraiser is very personal. I lost my Uncle Junior many years ago to this dreaded disease. And last year, his loving wife, my much-loved Aunt Wilma, joined him after suffering the long goodbye that is Alzheimer’s. But my own experience as a wife and caregiver to my late husband brought home the reality of all debilitating diseases and made me understand the heartbreak that the families of Alzheimer’s patients experience. My husband was diagnosed with hereditary ALS in January 2020 and died one year later to the day. Due to Covid restrictions, I was his one companion and for many months his sole caregiver. Each day I watched, as do the caregivers and family members of Alzheimer’s patients, as my beloved slowly succumbed to his illness. With both diseases, you lose your loved one a little every day. For all these reasons, I am asking for your support to bring awareness and raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Association. YOU CAN HELP! Please consider making a donation to help fight this disease by clicking on the green DONATE button. I am grateful for any level of support you can provide, as we continue to work to support and find a cure. Join us and attend the Memory Ball! I Hope You Dance! |
