Why am I dancing in this event?  I want to reclaim our future. I want to reclaim the future for you, for me, for my family, for friends and for those I don’t even know.  You can be a part of that journey with me.  You can say you were part of the cure…

Like many families, my family has been touched by Alzheimer’s.  My Aunt Peggy, my Mother’s sister, was one of the most vibrant people I have ever known.  All around her felt her warm and outgoing personality.  Aunt Peggy was a fabulous singer.  Along with her husband, my uncle, they performed music and had a group at one time.  When she was around 70 years old, the family started noticing a change in her personality. No longer the outgoing person she once was, she began staying at home more and begin a slow and painful decline.  Alzheimer’s had gripped her body and was robbing her of all job and happiness.  At 78, my Aunt Peggy passed away, but not without a struggle and valiant fight.

Fast forward to today… My Mother, at 83 years old, is suffering the same fate.  For the past eight years, she has been in a decline that has proved both painful to my Father, but gut-wrenching to my sister and me.  My Mother has no short-term memory and sleeps most of her days.  Her world is confined to an apartment she shares with my Father and the visits she has from family.  She has not been able to maintain any friendships and has lost interest in all things that used to give her pleasure.  Sometimes pleasant, but many times angry for reasons she does not understand or realize, she is not the Mother I used to have.

So.. why am I passionate about finding a cure for this life robbing disease?  While I can say this is for the greater good, which it is, it is also for my sister and me.  We have watched firsthand, along with my cousins, the devastation and damage this causes to families.  In what  ever way I can, I want to help in the fight to find a cure, so that my sister’s family and mine can be spared, but so can all the others, the millions, that are suffering.

Please help me in my fight, the fight that affects so many of us.  You can make a difference.  You can make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into prevention, treatments and a cure for Alzheimer's. For the millions already affected by the disease, the Association offers care, education, support and resources in communities nationwide. I need you to help win this battle, for me, for my sister and for everyone affected by Alzheimer’s.  Let us all be able to say we helped, we provided financial resources, to make this disease one only read about in books and not experience in our lives today.

Thank you in advance for your generous support.  We will find a cure for Alzheimer’s and you can say, “I helped!”
