A Tribute to Dad

This fund is in memory of my dad Robert James Fikac, also known as "Coach". My dad was diagnosed at the age of 58 with Alzheimer’s, and battled the disease for 6 years. He passed away a day after his 64th birthday on April 11, 2013.

My dad always had a smile on his face and knew how to make people laugh, which is why it was so difficult to see him become nonverbal the last year and half of his life due to the disease. Even though he was unable to speak, you could see the love he had for his friends and family through his eyes. I will always remember how happy he was on the day I told him my husband and I were expecting our first child. Though he couldn't verbally express his happiness I could tell by the way his eyes lit up and the expression on his face. Unfortunately, he did not live long enough to meet his first grandchild, but I know he will always be her guardian angel.

My brothers and I will cherish all the memories and know that we will one day see him again. Our hope is that in our lifetime we will find a cure so families don't have to see their loved ones go through what my dad went through.
