I did not know Coach Tom personally, but I got to know him through his beautiful granddaughter Britt. Coach Tom recently lost his battle with Alzheimer's and Britt and I share a commonality. I lost my mom, Fay Raisler to Alzheimer's in 2010. We shared stories of our journeys through Alzheimer's. Though very different, they were also very much the same. Both Coach Tom and my mom became non-verbal but the gift of music remained. Coach Tom played the piano and my mom could sing church hymns. Coach Tom was a pillar in his community and an amazing family man. He will be greatly missed but I look forward to hearing more stories about Coach Tom. Both Britt and I hope one day we can carry a white flower knowing we will never have to battle this disease or see our families mourn us before our passing. May Coach Tom always live in our hearts.
