Mary (Worthey) Shepler was born in Independence, Louisisana, and was one of five children. She enlisted in the U.S. Women's Army Corp and was honorably discharged seven years later. She married her husband, Richard Worthey, and had three daughters. Mary worked in the Texas education system and retired in approximately 1991.

In 2004, her daughters began noticing signs of memory problems. In 2006, Mary was clinically diagnosed with Dementia, likely Alzheimers. With much support, Mary was able to remain in her personal residence until 2008. At that time, she was unable to adequately care for herself. Her daughters had to make the difficult decisions during this time to have her drivers license withdrawn and to sell her home. She was moved into assisted living facility and later to an adult foster care home in Beaverton, Oregon.

Mary died on August 18, 2011, surrounded by friends and loved ones.

Rene, I am sorry to her of your mother's battle and recent passing. I went through that with my mother as well, and it's a very difficult process. I wish you very happy memories of your mother and trust that your faith will sustain and strengthen you. Take care.
