Zelva Newman Joyce, 92, of Stoneville, died Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at Morehead Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, April 30, 2010, at Ray Funeral Home of Madison. Interment will follow at Stoneville Municipal Cemetery.
Mrs. Joyce was born in Patrick County, Virginia on August 18, 1917 to the late Pete Taylor and Minnie Tamson Sheppard Newman. She was a member of Mayodan Pentecostal Holiness Church and was retired from Washington Mills. Zelva battled with Alzheimer's but always managed to stay as loving, warm, kind and generous as the day she was born. We all loved her very much and she will be missed dearly.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Bernard W. Joyce Sr.; sisters Ola Watkins, Sibby Watkins, Thelma Gunter, Annie Martin, Jean Newman; brothers, Bennett Newman and Matthew Newman.
Surviving are sons, Bernard W. Joyce Jr., and wife Frankie of Stoneville, NC and James T. Joyce of Brookfield, WI; sisters, Bannie Watson and Rachel Beasley of Mayodan and brother Henry Newman of Madison; grandchildren Warren, Heather, Ashley, Jayme and Evan; great-grandchildren Justin, Taylor, Jasmine and Nathan.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM until 9:00PM, Thursday, April 29, 2010 at Ray Funeral Home and other times at the home of Warren and Frankie Joyce, 3468 US 220 Business, Stoneville.
