Quimia Yvonne Chase, 80, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 23rd, 2014 in San Antonio, Texas. She was born December 4th, 1933 in New York City to Sydney and Ivanovna Payne. In 1953 she married Barton Austin Chase, Jr., they divorced in 1974 and together produced 6 children, Barton Austin III, Bryan Anthony, Fulton Craig, Merriel Matrena, Valerie Lynn, and Jennifer Lenore. Yvonne, as she preferred to be known as, was a woman of many talents and always at the forefront of many “trends.” She was an educator and tutor, master mathematician, Deaconess in the United Methodist Church, an incredible pianist and musician, who dedicated her life to God, her ministry in music and the myriad choirs that she led, an environmentalist, an inventor, Ms. Senior Tennessee, a diet and fitness guru, and of course… a dedicated mother.

Yvonne achieved a Bachelor of Science degree from Hunter College, a Master's in Maternal Infant Child Care from St. John's University, a Master's in Public Health from Columbia University and was a member of Mensa International.

She is survived by her brother Keith Baird, 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She was the most giving and selfless person an individual could have had the benefit of knowing and will be sorely missed. The legacy of her life and the impact she has left upon the lives of those who have been blessed to have experienced her presence, good nature, fairness, honesty and true love, will continue to benefit from her existence on this earth. Although Yvonne will be missed by all, her spirit will continue to live on eternally among those whose paths she crossed.

Funeral Services will be held at Northwest Hills United Methodist Church, 7575 Tezel Road, San Antonio, TX 78250 on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 11:00 AM. It is the request of family members that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Tribute to the life of Quimia Yvonne Chase to the Alzheimer's Association.
