Sylvia A. (Cassidy) Smith, 90, of New Bedford died February 23, 2024 at Royal of Fairhaven
surrounded by her family.

She was the wife of the late Majella Adrian Smith, to whom she was married for 64 years.
Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Stephen J. and Stephanie Cassidy, she lived in New Bedford all of her life. Sylvia was a graduate of New Bedford High School where she was Captain of the G.A.M.S.

She was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church and was a member of the Ladies Guild.

Mrs. Smith was an activities assistant at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth for many years.
Sylvia enjoyed crafting, reading and baking. She was famously known for her whoopee pies, not an event or holiday went by that they weren't requested. She also enjoyed vacationing in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her 5 children, Kevin Smith and his wife Karen of Acushnet, Rosemary
Menning and her husband Kurt of Mitchell, SD, Margaret Hertz and her husband James of
Poulsbo, WA, Joan Nasiff and her husband Steven of Berkley and Mary Camara and her
husband Emanuel of New Bedford; 2 siblings, Nancy Pimentel of New Bedford and Stephen J. Cassidy and his wife Barbara of Fairhaven; 11 grandchildren, Bethany Maney and her husband Brendan, Timothy Smith and his wife Lauren, Andy Menning and his wife Samantha, Valerie Parrott and her husband Andrew, Finn Smith, Sarah Howard and her husband John, Christine Farias and her husband Andrew, Shawn Nasiff, Christopher Hertz, Jada Hertz and Madison Camara; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Patricia and sister-in-law of the late John R Strange. Sylvia was also the god-mother to the late Sargent Michael P Cassidy.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Royal of Fairhaven, especially Maria, Rachel and Yvonne. We would also like to thank Fidelis Hospice for their compassion and care.

There will be a Memorial Mass to celebrate Sylvia and Adrian on Friday, April 5 th at 9 AM in Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts
National Cemetery in Bourne.
