DANNY KEITH JONES, 59, passed away peacefully on Thursday January 25, 2024 in Ardmore, Oklahoma.
Keith's symptoms started around 2017 with general forgetfulness. After visiting the doctor, he was treated for anxiety and lack of sleep. This went on for about two years before his diagnosis of dementia in August of 2019. At this point Keith was no longer able to work. Shortly after, we visited a specialist in Houston who diagnosed him with Early Onset Alzhiemer's disease. At this time Keith was 55. Our oldest son was 20. Our second son was 18. Our daughter was 17, and our youngest son was 13. Obviously this diagnosis devastated our family.
Over the next few years Keith's symptoms worsened. He forgot who his children were, how to move his body, how to care for himself, and eventually how to swallow. The last month of Keith's life was marked by an incredibly rapid decline. The only comfort in his death is that he is no longer trapped inside his body and mind. We know he is now fully restored.
According to the Alzheimer's Association, about 1 in 9 people aged 65 and older are living with Alzheimer's Dementia. According to the Mayo Clinic, around 300,000 to 360,000 people have the young-onset form of the disease.
This disease doesn't target just the elderly.
