Carol Lee Geneser Millar (AKA Gma, Grandma Carol, Bonne Maman, Commander in Chief) passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 21, 2020. She had a rich and full life before the onset of Alzheimer’s Disease. Carol’s greatest joy was spoiling and spending time with her family. She was a devoted wife, twice widowed to two loves of her life. Carol was a loving and selfless mother to three children and a proud and nurturing grandmother of 8 grandchildren whom she cherished and adored. She was an avid gardener, domestic dynamo, talented decorator, a wiz with a sewing machine, and had amazing shorthand skills. She enjoyed entertaining and cooking for family. Trips to Banff and Amsterdam were among her favorite travels. She was known for her kind, compassionate spirit and graceful charm.
She grew up in Chicago, IL the eldest of 4 children. She married Hank after meeting at Morton Salt Co. After he died in 1979 at age 42, she was a superb single mother raising three teens on her own. She had a second chance at love with John and moved to Oakville, Ontario, Canada for 16 years. After John died, she moved back to Chicago to be near family.
She was predeceased by her father Charles Mungovan, her mother Leone Peterson, stepmother Ada Mungovan, brother Michael Mungovan, husband Henry J Geneser, and second husband John A Millar. She is survived by her brother Tom (Karen) Mungovan, sister Diane (Bruce) Konrad, son Jeffrey Geneser (Elisa) of Cedar Rapids, IA, son Steven Geneser (Kathy) of Geneva, IL, daughter Caryn Smith (Bruce) of Charleston, SC, grandchildren James, Grace, and Emma, Rachel, Rebecca, Bradley Ryan, and Leland. She is also survived by many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.
