Skiing in Memory of Mama Beck and Ninie and to Raise Funds for Alzheimer's Awareness
My fondest memories of growing up were with my Grandmother. We called her Mama Beck. I had the privilege of spending a longer life with Mama Beck than I did my mom. To this day, I remember what a strong woman she was.
Mama Beck and her mother, Ninie, both finished their lives with Alzheimer's. The impact this disease had on these two ladies was profound.
I am skiing in the Camel's Hump Challenge again this year in memory of Mama Beck and Ninie. It is a long gnarly backcountry ski challenge over and around one of Vermont's highest peaks in the dead of winter. It takes most of a day and is an epic challenge for even the best skiers (of which I am not). It is an ironic memorial to two Southern women but it is my way of helping other families not experience what ours did.
By participating in this event, I've committed to raising awareness and funds to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association®.
Currently, more than 6 million Americans have Alzheimer's disease and that number is expected to grow to nearly 13 million by 2050. Our future is at risk and we must come together to change the course of this disease.
Please support my efforts by making a donation. All funds raised benefit the Alzheimer's Association, Vermont Chapter and its work to enhance care and support programs. Thank you for joining the fight against Alzheimer’s disease!
I hate asking for this type of thing but I think it is an honorable cause for a good foundation. I would appreciate a donation in memory of Mama Beck and Ninie.
Thank you.
