Fundraising Page for Alzheimer's Research in memory of Dee Smith
Hello everyone, thanks for coming to my fundraising page for A Ride to Remember. This is my fourth consecutive year of participating in the Ride to Remember for the benefit of the Alzheimer's Association. This has been a challenging, yet wonderful experience each of the previous three years (although every year I've been caught in the rain at some point). The past two years I rode with my local bike shop team, Cycle Haus, which has been a great sponsor for this event.
As you likely know, I'm riding for my father, Dee Smith. Dad lost his battle with Alzheimer's five years ago; when I'm riding during this event, I think about our times together before he was taken from us and how much I would love to be able to talk with him again. I wonder what he would think about us pedaling across the state of South Carolina in the summer heat. I wonder what he would say if I could tell him I was riding for him. When things get harder, I think about how he fought this disease and it motivates me to keep pushing.
This year, I've committed to train even harder than before, to get faster, stronger and more efficient. I have also committed to raise awareness and funds to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's disease and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050.
Please support my efforts by making a donation in memory of my father, Dee Smith. All funds raised benefit the Alzheimer's Association and its work to enhance care and support programs and advance research toward methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure for Alzheimer's disease. I've kicked off the donations myself with $100, but any amount that you can donate would be most appreciated and your donation is tax deductible.
Thank you for your support and for joining the fight against Alzheimer’s!
