"Sprint to the finish line!" - Love, Dad
On November 3, 2024, I will be running the New York Marathon on the Alzheimer’s Association team in an effort to raise money and bring awareness about the millions of people who are suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease and other forms of dementia.
This is a cause very near to my heart as my 64-year-old father is currently living in a memory care facility battling severe dementia. Life looks very different for all of us (his wife, kids, young grandkids) than what we have imagined at this period of our lives. My dad was a leader and mentor, sharp and quick-witted, hard-working and so driven to accomplish goals. He has always been so incredibly inspirational, full of drive and integrity. His severe mental decline has been heartbreaking for all who know and love him.
A phrase he used often in his life was “Sprint to the finish line” encouraging all around him to try their very hardest to the end of whatever it is they were trying to accomplish.
I can hear my dad’s voice in my head each time I race as I try to dig deep and sprint to the finish line which is what I plan to do on November 3rd in New York City. This will be the most meaningful race I’ve ever done because it is for my dad in a city that was my home for several years.
Please consider donating to this cause that will go to research and finding cures to help people like my dad.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
