My Personal Fundraising Page
Welcome, Friends & Family!
I am so excited to run the 2024 New York City Marathon as a part of the Alzheimer's Association® marathon team! This cause means so much to my family and me, and I am so excited to join the fight against Alzheimer's disease!
Alzheimer's disease and other dementias have touched my life through several family members. When I was a child my maternal grandfather, Jim "Grandpa" Stertz, was diagnosed with the disease, as was my dad's cousin, Walter Reiser. My mom's brother, Lt. Col. Joe Stertz, battled dementia for years until he passed away in 2020. Most recently, my amazing mom, Kathy Rainsford, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease in January of 2022.
In joining the Alzheimer's Association® marathon team, I have committed to raise awareness and a starting goal of $4,400 to advance the care, support, and research efforts of the association.
The statistics surrounding Alzheimer's disease and other dementias are sobering:
-More than 6 million Americans have Alzheimer's disease and that will more than double to 13 million by 2050!
-The lifetime risk for Alzheimer's at age 45 is 1 in 5 for women and 1 in 10 for men
-Between 2000 and 2021, deaths from Alzheimer's increased by 141%
-Over 11 million Americans provide unpaid care for people with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias.
-In 2024, Alzheimer's disease and other dementias will cost the nation $360 billion. That number could reach $1 trillion by 2050.
I am running the New York City marathon in honor of my mom, in memory of my grandpa, my Uncle Joe and Uncle Walter, and for the future generations of our family! Please join me in fighting against Alzheimer's by making a donation towards my New York City marathon goal. All funds raised benefit the Alzheimer's Association and its work to enhance care and support programs and to advance research toward methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure for Alzheimer's disease. Thank you so much for your help and I can't wait to start running to #ENDALZ!
