I'm running the marathon for my amazing dad - who was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's two years ago at 56 years old. After his diagnosis my family's worlds have flipped. We've had to learn how to love differently and become caretakers while relishing in the small moments and weathering the storm of Alzheimer's - an unforgiving disease that has stolen my dad's memories and robbed us of a lifetime of adventures.
Alzheimer's is a part of the story of my dad's life, but it is only a chapter and certainly not the main message of his story. His story is about love and happiness and being surrounded by incredible family and friends. My dad has spent his life serving others and putting his family before everything. He brightens every room he walks into and has affected my sisters and I's lives in the most amazing ways - challenging us to be better people and telling us there's nothing we can't achieve. The best "girl dad" daughters could ask for.
I'm determined to do everything I can to make more memories, share more big moments and spend more time with my dad. I'm running to raise awareness for this terrible disease and for everyone who has been affected by "the longest goodbye". I'm running for the caregivers who put their lives aside to assist and care for Alzheimer's patients that can't care for themselves. I'm running for everyone my dad has impacted in his 58 years.
Please support my efforts by making a donation. All funds raised benefit the Alzheimer's Association and its work to enhance care and support programs and advance research towards methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure for Alzheimer's disease. Thank you SO much for joining the fight against Alzheimer's disease!
