Let's End Alzheimer's Together
Thank you for visiting my Ride to End Alzheimer’s Fundraising page. Yes, once again I’ll head out in early June to ride 100 or so miles in support of this great cause – my eighth year in a row.
Can I count on you to support my ride? Any amount will do - $4, $9, $18, $93, $424 - round numbers are fine too!
Your donation is important. One in every ten people over 65 have Alzheimer’s and approximately 480,000 people will develop it THIS YEAR alone. And the cost of that? The cost of care for those with Alzheimer’s will exceed a quarter TRILLION dollars this year. Worse, that is projected to quadruple by 2050.
It’s a bit like a slow-rolling seemingly never-ending COVID-19 Pandemic.
But on the good side, your donation WILL make a difference. When I started doing this ride six years ago the big breakthrough had been a way to diagnosis the plaque buildup while the patient was still alive. Then it was genetic markers, and today it is a series of drug trials that scientist hope will slow the disease or perhaps even stop it. There is more I've missed I'm sure. Your dollars will go to research to help find a cure.
As many of you know one of the reasons I ride is because my mother has Alzheimers, as did her sister and mother.
A few months before my last ride she progressed from the memory unit to full nursing care at Tockowotton in Providence RI. She has managed to avoid COVID as did my father, who is also at Tockwotton in assisted living. Life there this year has been outstandingly hard, but I did get to see both of them this past February, the first time I had seen my mom in person since just before lockdown. What a strange year it has been.
Thank you for donation or better still join me and do a bit of fundraising yourself. Remember too that the Alzheimer’s Association contribute the funds raised not just to Alzheimers research, but all forms of dementia.
And if you are here for the answer to the joke in my email signature, here you go:
Why can't a bike stand up on it's own?
It's two tired!
