Run to End ALZ in honor of Jim MacFarlane
Please support me as I run with Team End ALZ to benefit the Alzheimer's Association! I will be running in honor of my dad, Jim, who was officially diagnosed with Alzheimer's in January 2021 at the age of 58.
January 2021 was not the start of my family's journey with this devastating disease though. For the better part of 3 years, my mom fought tirelessly for my dad to get a proper diagnosis. There is currently no definitive diagnostic test for Alzheimer's and due to my dad's young age, Alzheimer's was not on the forefront of his physician's mind. Had we gotten a proper diagnosis sooner, we could have started a plan of care to slow the disease and manage the symptoms to allow for a better quality of life.
Alzheimer’s is devastating for both the person with the disease and their loved ones. My family and I have watched my once bright, motivated, funny, and loving father go from being a Vice President of a successful company to someone who struggles with everyday tasks and forgets his children’s names. Alzheimer’s has taken so much away from my dad and our family. We still see glimpses of my dad’s old self, like his love for hockey, his funny one-liners, and his deep love for his children and wife (and his pets). I hope there is a day when no other family has to slowly lose their loved one to this disease.
There is currently no cure for this devastating disease and still very little known about treatment. The goal of The Alzheimer's Association is to fund the research into diagnosis, treatment, and eventually a cure to this disease. Please support me as I raise money in order to directly assist in their goal.
I will be running a half marathon in Massachusetts September 30th as a part of the The End ALZ team, with my dad supporting me from the side lines! 100% of the money donated will go directly to helping end this devastating disease.
Thank you for your support!
