Sean's fundraising page
Dear Friends and Family,
This year's Ride to end Alzheimers certainly has a different feel as the Covid pandemic has necessitated a virtual ride. Despite the social distancing, I'm honored to be joining my friends Craig, Jack, Hakan, Eva and Alan to raise funds, awareness and share our collective personal experiences with this disease. Every one of us is too familiar with the ravages of this disease and we're comitted to helping find an end to Alzheimer's.
I ride to honor the memory of my mother, Una, who was diagnosed with Alzheimers in 2013. The course of Mum's disease made off piecmeal with a wonderful, gentle and quixotic persona. Every day, every week, every month Mum exhibited some strange behavior which hinted ominously at a fundamental loss of memory or cognition. The memory loss in Mum's case wasn't clean or tidy, she was aware that she was missing pieces of the puzzle. The overall effect was terrifying for her and deeply traumatizing for me and my family. Mum died in October of 2017 of other complications, which, considering the final days of people who die of Alzheimer's, may have been a mercy. Hard as that is to consider.
I also ride to support my dear friends and family who have similar experiences and to honor the memory of their departed, especially Ruth Buckler, Mum's sister Agatha, Margaret Stapleton, for Charlotte, William Sydney Barnes Sr, Gertrude Baynes, Arthur Holmberg, Alfred R Kennedy, James Luiz, Shirley O'Donnell, and Barbara Ross. I also ride in honor of Gloria Goobie, and in honor of family members who have supported and cared for these loved ones in their time of greatest need.
Please consider donating to my fundraiser to end Alzheimer's.
