Stalker Henderson's Fundraising Page for the Alzheimer's Association
Hello Friends and Family!
In 2000, I ran the Chicago Marathon with Margit, Caity, and Theo (in utero) at the finish line. In fall 2019, almost 20 years later/older and with an empty nest (I thought), I decided that I might have enough gas in the tank to have another go at 26.2 miles in Chicago with Caity about to be a senior at Northwestern. Knowing that my 54-year-old body would need extra motivation to get across the finish line, I decided that I would run the race in honor of my mother and to raise awareness and funds for the Alzheimer’s Association in her memory.
Those of you who were lucky to know my mom will remember that Joanna Baxter Henderson was energetic, intelligent, loving, funny and so full of life. To see that vibrancy stricken by Alzheimer’s was one of the great tragedies of my life. Now, more than 8 years after her death, I am determined to run this race remembering the joy she embodied all her life, while fighting the terrible disease that took her.
I’m asking that you support my efforts to run the 2020 Chicago Marathon. My goal is to raise at least $2620. . .$100 per mile. All funds I raise will go to the Alzheimer's Association and its work to enhance care, support programs and research about Alzheimer’s disease and ultimately find a cure.
Um, Stalker? The 2020 Chicago Marathon was cancelled, right?
Not for me, it wasn’t! I am committed to running the Chicago Marathon as scheduled on October 11, 2020 (albeit on the streets and paths of Denver. . .wearing a mask). I will run with my mother in my mind and in my heart. And I will run with an end to Alzheimer’s in my crosshairs. I appreciate your support.
