Ernie's Chicago Marathon - Alzheimer's Fundraising Page!!
Many of you may know, I set a goal of trying to run a marathon once a month for all of 2020. I've tried to stick as close to San Diego as possible to minimize all the travel costs but inevitably, I'd had to get mobile and travel the country. Being that I grew up in Chicagoland, I figured Chicago would be a good race to run. It will check the marathon box for October and give me a good excuse to go home to see friends and family.
Why run for Alzheimer’s?
My grandmother, Evelyn Anderson suffered from Alzheimer’s for about 10 years in her 80s and 90s. It was SO sad to see her deteriorate mentally while her body kept together and going into her late 90s. My grandparents were a product of the Great Depression and were savers and frugal. It seems like most of their life savings went to health care instead of doing fun things like cruises and enjoying their time traveling. Knowing that Alzheimer’s is hereditary, it can't hurt to help support research for the cause because who knows if it will hit the Andersons again.
I need to raise $1750 to participate in the Chicago Marathon... but blowing past that donation milestone wouldn’t be such a bad thing. Please support me and the Alzheimer’s Association in this journey!!
Here's the canned message that was posted when I created the page but with good info.
By participating in this event, I've committed to raising awareness and funds to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association®.
Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's disease and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk and we must come together to change the course of this disease.
Please support my efforts by making a donation. All funds raised benefit the Alzheimer's Association and its work to enhance care and support programs and advance research toward methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure for Alzheimer's disease. Thank you for joining the fight against Alzheimer’s disease!
