Bethany's 2020 Chicago Marathon/ALZ Stars Fundraising Page
When I was in my early 20s, we lost Great Uncle George to Alzheimer's. When I was in my late 20s, we lost Great Aunt Marje to Alzheimer's. When I was in my mid-30s, we lost Grammie to Alzheimer's. I'm now entering my 40s and watching Grandpa fight this disease that has caused so much heartache and loss in my family.
I have watched my grandparents, parents, and extended family members work endlessly and tirelessly to care for their diagnosed spouses/siblings/parents/family members. I have mourned as loved ones' minds and bodies have been compromised and forever changed by Alzheimer's. I have watched and felt the absolute heartache of "the long goodbye." I have commiserated with dear friends who have shared these experiences with their own families. I have worried that my parents, spouse, and children will have to struggle with Alzheimer's. I have worried about my own future.
When I made my plans to run the 2020 Chicago Marathon, I decided to combine my passion for long-distance running with my strong desire to support efforts to find a cure for Alzheimer's. By participating in this event, I've committed to raising awareness and funds to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association®.
Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's disease and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk and we must come together to change the course of this disease.
Please support my efforts by making a donation. All funds raised benefit the Alzheimer's Association and its work to enhance care and support programs and advance research toward methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure for Alzheimer's disease. Thank you for joining the fight against Alzheimer’s disease!
