Will Vido's Alzheimer's Association
I am running the 2024 Chicago Marathon on behalf of the Alzheimer's Association. I chose this cause because it is very close to my heart and has impacted my family. In 2013, my grandma, Fay Vido, passed away after a lengthy battle with dementia, and Alzheimer’s is a type of dementia. I was able to see firsthand how quickly people’s loved ones and my own deteriorated from such a horrific disease. My grandma had this disease for 7 long years. Currently, more than 6 million Americans have Alzheimer's disease and that number is expected to grow to nearly 13 million by 2050.There is currently no cure for this disease, and few methods of prevention and symptom management as the disease breaks down neural proteins. Running has become a hobby of mine over the past few years. I have participated in the Chi Town Half Marathon, Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle, Bank of America Chicago Half Marathon, Big 10 10K, Soldier Field 10 Miler, the Under Armour 10K, and most recently the Moab Trail Half Marathon in Utah. I am honored to have been chosen to run in the 2024 Chicago Marathon. It has been a goal of mine to run in this event. I am extremely proud, and I am sure my grandma would be too, that I can use this activity to help bring awareness to Alzheimer's. I appreciate all donations and look forward to keeping you posted on my training for the marathon.
