Griz's Memorial Ride to Fight Alzheimer's Disease
We all know my dad affectionately as "Griz" or "Grizzly," a name he has always cherished. After suffering from Alzheimer's for a number of years, he finally succumbed to this terrible disease last year.
Griz loved the outdoors, be it camping, hiking, or bike riding. One of the tales he often told was of his favorite bike ride from Brooklyn to Montauk Point. In his memory, myself and a few friends are going to be following his path this September by cycling the ~120 miles from Brooklyn to Montauk Point. However, we will be riding over a two-day weekend; Griz biked the distance in one.
Why We Ride: Alzheimer's disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States. More than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's, and over 11 million are acting as their caregivers.
Each person in the team has set their own personal goals for 2022, and are tackling those miles in the effort to join the fight against Alzheimer's. This new program, the Spokes Series in the Ride to End ALZ, allows people to participate over the whole year, instead of a 1-day event. Join us in the fight!!
We are going the distance for all those affected while raising funds and awareness to advance research toward the first survivor of Alzheimer's. Right now, there is no shortage of ideas in Alzheimer's research -- only dollars. But together, we can help change that. 100 percent of the funds raised from this new fundraising model will go toward the Association's efforts to discover methods of treatment and prevention for Alzheimer's and other dementias.
Alzheimer's touches all of us, and it will take all of us to end it. Please join our team or donate today.
