Hello, my name is Diane Hanson-Johnson and I am the Captain for Team Colonial Heritage for 2023. The Walk is just a part of what we are doing in Colonial Heritage for those lives affected by Alzheimer's disease. We also have an Alzheimer's Disease Interest Group that meets each month, and all residents in Colonial Heritage are invited to attend. For more information please contact Sherry Wolfson at bimergal@cox.net.
I lost my mom to Alzheimer's and being a nurse, I can pretty much handle any medical condition that comes along, but the experience of losing a loved one twice, is something that is difficult to overcome; once when they no longer know who you are, and again when they pass. Since my mother's passing, I have lost a high school classmate, and I have several friends diagnosed with this disease. As I talk with others, it seems everyone knows someone suffering from some form of dementia, or they have lost a loved one to Alzheimer's. I now walk for a group of people that I care about, and I am proud to be a part of the Colonial Heritage Team. I have also accepted to be the Chair of the Williamsburg Walk volunteers for 2023, but my priority is still with Team Colonial Heritage. I would like to have a co-captain join me this year, anyone interested, please contact me. Colonial Heritage has set records in donations for the last two years, and I hope we can break yet another record in 2023. The donations raised for the Walk do not just go for research but help support those struggling with the disease, or are a caregiver for someone. Remember, you are not alone, come Walk with us or come to one of the Interest Group Meetings.
Our walk this year will be on Saturday, October 28 in Newtown, please mark this date on your calendar and join our team to help raise money and awareness and make Alzheimer's Disease a thing of the past.
Thank you,
Diane
