October 8th, 2022 was a special day for my family as my grandfathers, Sol Dubin & Allen Caplan, found their place on the DC Walk run of show. The beginning of this journey though, was much earlier, when 12-year-old me made the trip with my father to New Jersey to see my grandpa Sol. Only this visit, grandpa didn't know who I was, nor do I recall him using my name after that day. When my cousin Joe spoke at his funeral, he reminisced of a lesson my grandpa had taught him about basketball, and how going to the basket the way you know best is not the way to improve your game. I cried, wishing so badly that my grandpa had been able to teach me that same lesson; and then smiled as I realized my father had. I walk for all those who have or will miss time with their loved ones and I walk to provide those on this journey a place to call, a place to go and a place to experience hope among so many who have been impacted.
