This fall, my family and I will be participating in the 2021 Walk to End Alzheimer's, in honor of my dad, Levi Brown. My dad passed away on February 16, 2019, after a 7 year battle with dementia.  This is the 10th year we have been participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer's and raising funds to help battle this disease.

Our family has seen the effects of this devastating disease first hand. My dad, a lifelong athlete who took excellent care of his body and mind, began to show signs of decline a few years before he was diagnosed with dementia. The disease quickly took the very best parts of him - his personality as we knew it, and his ability to communicate with the people he loved.  For his last several years with us, he was confined to a wheelchair and was rarely able to open his eyes to see his wife, daughters, and grandchildren.

Our family is Walking to End Alzheimer's to honor my dad, and to help prevent others from having to experience the devastation of this disease. It's a progressive disease that has no mercy on those affected. There are no current treatments that can reverse the effects the disease has on the mind and body. Caring for someone with Alzheimer's or Dementia in your own home is a full time job, and utilizing nursing home care is not an affordable option for many families.

In the United States someone develops Alzheimer's every 65 seconds, and one in three seniors dies with Alzheimer's or another dementia. Between 2000 and 2017, deaths from Alzheimer's increased 145 percent. We need to take action before this disease affects the majority of our aging population.

With your help, our family has raised more than $45,000 for the Alzheimer's Association over the last 9 years! Your generous donations help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into prevention, treatments, and a cure for Alzheimer's. For the millions already affected by the disease, the Association offers care, education, support and resources in communities nationwide.

Thank you very much,
Tracey, Jackie, Cindy and Julie
