Here’s what’s what we're aiming to achieve this year:
  1. To lock in a reliable game plan for our state plan.
South Carolina will soon release its first update to its state Alzheimer’s plan in 14 years. Think of how much our world has changed in that time! This game plan to fight back against dementia should be refreshed every 5 years to ensure that it is current, innovative and responsive to changes in research, access and demand. We’re pushing to make that a state law.

  2. To get South Carolina on the map at top-tier clinical trials.
For years, most South Carolinians have had to travel for hours just to have a chance at coveted opportunities to investigate new Alzheimer’s treatments through clinical trials. To stop being passed over, our state must have a federally designated Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC). We’re seeking a state investment of $10 million to support our research universities in strengthening their research programs in the dementia space to be competitive in applying for an ADRC designation. This modest investment could drastically increase trial access through a multi-site ADRC, improve quality of care and unlock unprecedented funding streams for dementia research in our state.
