The Alzheimer's Association, Long Island Chapter is seeking volunteers to lead and/or co-facilitate support groups in Nassau and Suffolk counties. We are seeking individuals who have knowledge of Alzheimer's disease either by education (a social worker, nurse, health care professional) or by exerience (a former caregiver). This individual will be trained by staff of the Alzheimer's Association and placed in a location where a support group is needed. Support groups can be for adult children of an Alzheimer's patient, a well spouse or an early stage patient. Times and datse vary according to the need in the community. Facilitors will possess strong listening skills, effective communication skills, ability to create s safe environment where participantss thoughts and feelings are valued. Facilitators will have to agree to have the Alzheimer's Association conduct a criminal background check.
We are currently accepting volunteers who want to work with the Long Island Chapter to conduct support groups in their communities.
