Peninsula MPA Forum: Improving Long-Term Care & Assistance for Older Californians

Date:
Time:
5:30 PM - 7:00 PM
Location:
Avenidas Rose Kleiner Center
270 Escuela Avenue
Mountain View, CA 94040

Governor Newsom issued an Executive Order last June calling for the creation of a statewide Master Plan for Aging (MPA) to serve as a blueprint to promote healthy aging and prepare for coming demographic changes, and the Alzheimer's Association is helping to draft recommendations for the plan now.

The Master Plan is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to strengthen and improve California's programs and services to serve older adults, families, and caregivers. Now is the time to be heard!

Come hear about the Master Plan from Governor Newsom's recently-appointed Director of California's Department of Aging and weigh in on draft recommendations to improve:

  • Affordability of home care, assisted living and nursing home care.
  • Access to care and support for people with Alzheimer's and other complex care needs.
  • Information to help older adults and their families understand and navigate changing care needs.

 Featured speakers and listeners:

  • Kim McCoy Wade, Director, California Department of Aging
  • Maya Altman, Chief Executive Officer, Health Plan of San Mateo and MPA Stakeholder Advisory Committee member
  • Susan DeMarois, Director of Public Policy, Alzheimer’s Association and MPA Stakeholder Advisory Committee member
  • Supervisor Joe Simitian, Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors

There will be plenty of time for audience participation, so please come prepared to participate!  You can help by sharing your experience, challenges and successes navigating long-term care needs for yourself or a loved one in California, or you can just listen and provide written feedback later. All you need to bring is a desire for positive change. Together, we can build a stronger network of long-term services and supports to ensure that ALL Californians can age with dignity.
