Dear [Decision Maker],
As a Californian personally impacted by Alzheimer's, I want you to know that I am not alone. Over the next seven years the population in our state affected by Alzheimer's will grow by 29% reaching 840,000 people by 2025. It is critical that we act now to target populations at greater risk to address health disparities and inequities. SB 1292 (Hueso) does this and more.
Currently less than half of all persons with Alzheimer's have been formally diagnosed by a physician. For women and communities of color, diagnostic rates are even worse resulting in poor health outcomes and higher medical costs. For minimal state costs, the California Department of Public Health can update the Alzheimer's Disease Facts and Figures Report, a critical local health planning tool for counties confronting the challenges of a fast growing older adult population.
Communities of color count. I respectfully ask you to sign SB 1292 on behalf of African Americans, Asian Pacific Islanders, Latinos and women.
Sincerely, [Your Name] [Your Address] [City, State ZIP][Your Email]
